George Sands is sorry he couldn’t join us today. He wanted to say that he and Leigh have many good memories of the MLA dinner (part of the conference fundraiser for years) that Margaret orchestrated. Those of you who attended any of those, know that George’s assignment was to bring the wine. Also, they have happy memories of visiting Margaret’s camp in ME.

I forgot to mention that my mother was the person who let Margaret know of the MLA Exec. Director position since they were friends and Mom knew that Margaret had been laid off from her job and was looking for a new adventure. And the rest is history.

Thank you all for sharing wonderful memories. Margaret believed in each one of us, and she helped me believe in my ability to lead. I will always remember working with her to move the conference from Ocean City to Cambridge. She gave me a checklist (in a binder!), and I did everything she recommended. I have to cover the desk as we finish out the week. Thank you again for this conversation.

I've only been in MLA for a few years so I didn't get to know her as well as everyone else but I will share that I live in Annapolis and one day when driving home I saw someone in front of me with a "Librarian 1" license plate and I thought - who is that and how do I get one! I eventually got closer and saw that it was Margaret at the wheel :)

Every time I open an MLA email or do anything to do with the Conference, Margaret immediately springs to mind and then I remember (yet again) that she's no longer with us - at least, not physically. In spirit, she'll be with us forever.
