What she said!

@Tahirah, I'm a current MLIS graduate student at UMD who is a POC. So glad you mention how being educated doesn't always equal fair or higher pay.

54:27
I agree with Erica about payment. I ended up in the prison library system because they had difficulty with recruitment and they offered me more money than I was getting as Manager in a public library where one of my white colleagues said to me: "Glennor even if I used to think you were hired because you were African American, I don't think so now"

Support from a Black Caucus is crucial.

The Talk is still relevant today!

01:07:56
We also need to participate in areas of discussion in schools. I'm not sure if Librarians are invited to give talks in schools especially among soon to b graduates

01:13:10
@Glennor, I agree. We have to start early and often (elementary-high schools) in order to draw more BIPOC to the information field.

Please Donate to the Diversity Immersion Institute, https://giving.umd.edu/giving/fund.php?name=diversity-immersion-institute Dedicated to increasing the number of African Americans in the field. Thank you!

01:14:48
I also think we should do more education among librarianship. Many young people and adults, think all that librarians do is READ BOOKS

01:15:40
Please also hear Tahirah and Damon speak about the Diversity and Immersion Institute in Episode 25 – October 23, 2020 of the MLA Conversations archive https://www.mdlib.org/content.asp?contentid=350
